Default Alpair 10.2 Project

This is my latest fullrange project.

Markaudio Alpair 10.2 in 16 l BR-Enclosure, activated with an HYPEX AS 2.100 DSP/AMP. The Filtering is done digitally. The Enclosure ist made of MDF / walnut-veneer.

It is basically the MarkO Design.

Greetings
Rudolf

Nice concept. Very nice cabinet. How does it sound? I have been thinking about using the Alp10.2 in some sort of FAST system.

Nice work!
The MA 10.2's are well worth the effort.
Mine are in Mar-Ken cabs, from Dave's online plans. (Planet10 hi-fi.com)
Best

Those look versy similar to my Mar-Ken10.2 Centre. My biggest worry about those is the proximity of the side walls to the driver. Yours look to be even closer. Are you hearing any early reflections back thru the cone. Usually discernable as a midrange cuppiness (ie like talking with your hands cupped around your mouth.

Did you optimize the tuning for the A10.2?

Interesting project. I was going to do something similar.

I have two questions.

1) Does the Hypex module introduce any sort of (even low) hiss or noise when you are listenting at a close distance to the speakers. So when you have digital zero or low volume parts in music (piano for example) is there noticable hissing?

2) Why did you choose a relativley small enclosure for the 10.2? The simulations point to a 20 l to 25 l cabinet for the Alpair 10.2 (while the 10.1 needed something about 15 l).

The simulations i have done indicate that 20 litres is the maximum i would go. I chose 17 litres formy big box.

This is a very interesting approach.
Now I had the impression that the DSP in the Hypex module is there to make an active 2 way filter. So I wonder if you use it to filter towards a subwoofer, or perhaps can you program the DSP to bring baffle step etc corrections to the signal?

The hypex has a number of biquads available per channel. A biquad is a chunk of correction, you can make a filter with it (use one channel for a tweeter and one channel for a woofer), or you can use it to EQ and use one channel for left and another for right. You can do a lot more, but that's it in a nutshell. It has a separate line-level output for a subwoofer, you can configure that as well. Mono, single channel (either left of right), EQ it, or make a third channel for a three-way speaker design to be driven with an external amplifier.

The hypex makes me smile. It enables my hobby a lot more than a box of nearly-right filter components.

Excellent. Yes, I can see that an active full range speaker with such a correction-enabled hypex module is a very attractive proposition.

1.) I did not notice any hissing form the module. i use the digital inputs.
2.) actually, the mark-o was a design for alpair 10 gen 1. i sticked with the small volume, because i wanted to have small enclosures (the hypex module in the back need another 2,5). gen 2 works very well in the 16 l enclosure.
