Why particularly this design? I've heard them, and while they image very well, there are serious limitations as far as bass is concerned. There are any number of substantially better performing FR/wide-band enclosure designs that would need much less $100 invested in drivers.

It is a clever design for its pre-computer modeling era, but indeed limited in bass depth and quality.
Can you inform us what your budget is? Also think about this: considering the time you'll spend building it and later listening to it, perhaps it's better to save up a little longer.
