Default Tang Band 1808 in BLH Half Chang

Ok, some people said it should not be done, other said they did not know, but i figured I would just be out some wood and time. I loaded the 1808 in a half Chang, a full Chang could not fit in my room, i will upload pics and info as i test it out. I made it out of 3/4 baltic birch, the stepped mouth, driver towards the top of the front baffle, layered the entire inside with No Rez from Danny Richie at GR, PE posts and blocks, some poly fill inside-very light. I will let them run on a loop for the next couple of days and then sit down to listen. I am hoping for a full range, easily powered with my Decware amp, with a freq in from of 45-20000. I may be dreaming, but we will see.

Wow!! Great job! I've always wondered how they would look and sound. Great job. Do you have any pics of the construction process? Any details on stuffing? I can't wait for your first listening impressions. Do you have any other speakers to compare them against?

Thanks again for your efforts!

I was chatting with Planet10 Dave on the AC site, and it may come to be that my cabinet is too small for what i require. Dave was kind, but made me think i may have out thought the cool designs at FH site. I will be finishing them up this weekend with stain, so we will how they sound. Dave pointed out that i could just replace the driver with a Fostex 225 model, almost as a drop in. I'll send in some more pics as I go and post listening when I get there. Here is the AC stuff, i hope i have not crossed swords by just showing what dave had stated over there.. http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php...8642#msg988642

Keep us posted. I have a pair of 1808s in boxes waiting for another project. Had them in small sealed boxes (sounded great this way) and on an open baffle beneath H-frames... also sounded great! For some reason, having played around with this driver, i think it's one that could stand alone and satisfy. All you have to do is put it into a box... but what box? I'm curious how you feel about their sound in the Half Changs.

Not sure the hole size is the same for the 225. The TB has an odd measurment that's a bit larger than standard sized 8 inchers... but Dave is right, you can drop something else into the cabinet (maybe needing a supra baffle with diff hole size) and enjoy them that way. Your efforts are not wasted!

Default Amp

Dave,

I am using a modified Taboo amp, it puts out between 3 and 4 watts total, with a Mullard 32 on the back side. If that does not work, i have a ATI 3002 i'll put them on, or pick up another tube amp somewhere. Im ok with the amp or picking one up.
Had it it modified in canada by tubedeforce...

That should give you adequate levels as long as you aren't one to crank it.

Need a couple more coats of clear then install the drivers.. Im behind.. i know. No sure what i am going to do with the baffle cover oval. It is going to be gloss black, I may even put it on on the horizontal axis to make it different. who knows... i need the weekend to think about it.
