Crazy tubular bipole quazi-walsh idea
I've had ideas about quazi-walsh style speaker projects based on fullrange drivers sitting face-down on top of ABC drain pipe.
Something like the "Pencil" micro-walsh-inspired project someone did a few years ago, though that was not a full-range design.
Keep in mind that what Ohm hides inside the can on top of a modern Walsh speaker is an almost completely conventional cone driver with a thoroughly conventional dome tweeter sitting on top of it with a cardboard brim, like Jose Ebert's cowboy hat, so even real walsh speakers are largely quazi-walsh for at least the last 30 years, except for brands even more boutique than Ohm.
Specifically, kind of looking at the 16-ohm 3" paper cone that madisound is selling for $2.50/ea, which would fit neatly into 3" drain pipe.
Madisound recommends 2 in parallel for 8 ohms in a 2L sealed cabinet. That turns out to be ~13 inches of 3-inch drain pipe. Lets say 12" with a flange attached to each end to bolt the speaker to.
Of course, while i do plenty of speaker tinkering, i have never attempted cabinet design, and don't know my thiele from my small.
The objective is to make cheap omnidirectional side and rear surrounds for the HT system, which has plenty of bass from Ohm Walsh 3 mains and a 12" 150w subwoofer.
Is this a completely stupid idea?
