Default Scott wilko's Hiro build

hey guys it's been quite a while since i've been on here. Most of you will know me from my steel buschorns.

i still listen to them everyday and love them, but have decided to to build a pair of hiro's out of wood just to have another sound project to work on. i'm currently working on a stainless hovercraft as well so updates will come fairly slowly as my time is fairly limited at the moment

I've ordered my binding posts and some FE168 sigmas, i just need to buy a compound saw before i can make a proper start, so i'm a good 2 weeks off yet

I'll be following your progress. Hiro has not been built often.

well my drivers and binding posts are in, i went for the WBT binding post purely for the quality that goes into them and for the chunkiness, now i'm just waiting a week or so and i'll order a compound miter saw Click the image to open in full size.

well i've ordered the saw. but the lack of info on the Hiro's is a bit disturbing

my goal with this build is to get the biggest sound that i can from the fostex, so with size not being an issue what is the best box for these drivers?

Haven't heard them myself, but some well respected people rave about these in BIBs although they're huge and need corners. Victor may work. Yeah - you could build Victor and then I would know if it works - yeah.

FE166 and family have never been near as popular as the smaller & larger drivers in the series. Austin A166, Hiro, and Victor are your best candidates. Few Hiro have been built, but reviews all follow in the vien of Saburo & Sachiko (ie highly praised)

Only 1 set of Victor exist, i'm listening to them now.

My $.02 worth - having built / heard several of Scott's full size double mouth designs over the past 3 or so years, I'd definitely recommend the Victor for situations were the rear exit will work. That the build is less complex (aside from the curved side panels) is a bonus.

I am intrigued and unsure of what I am looking at. Is this a cab that is internally lite and exposed with a transparent panel or is this cab shown with a panel removed to illustrate the innards?

the latter - here's with the "missing" side panel attached via machine screws, and I assume sealed by foam gasket / weatherstrip tape

ChrisB, that's real, or you just photoshopped the side panel?
