Lowther Home Page
Looking at the recommended plans on the Lowther site, they almost all seem to share the feature of having multiple paths of the sound. More often than not with with holes and unclosed CC and paths. It's almost as though they want ML-TQWT and horn loading in one design. Any explanations on this, and why it isn't seen more often? Edit apparently I can't hotlink to the page, but it's the front pages upper middle panel, with the "cabinet plans" link I'm referring to. Last edited by Squeak; 2nd March 2011 at 08:39 AM. |

squeak,
built it, make a measurement, specially impedanz, than close the extra path, make a new measurement of imp, than you understand what happend and if this make sence, i don´t think so that why i constructed until 1980 my own Lowther horn, my double horns are the top of feasibility now. look my HP with measurements, plans and feedbacks in comparison to other here often mentioned constructions, if you find real measurements.

they start as resonant pipes and then you add chambers and vents to tame the worst peaks by trial and error is my guess...
I bought TP-1 drawings from Lowther years ago, not only did the horn have negative flare accorrding to the drawings, the different parts did not add up. So not only erroneous in flare but also inconsistent. If I wanted to spend a lot of money on a full range driver I would rather spend it on SEAS that Lowther, or a wide range 8" PA driver if I want to play really loud with a 8" driver in a BLH. I have heard the Schmacks horn both with Lowther and JBL 2110 and there was no comparison, the JBLs was much better. Calling the Accolade 2 a folded horn is a joke, it is bunch of resonance producing chambers and vents... |

Let me just make it clear that I´m not looking to buy Lowther drivers (don't have the money and I don't think their value for money ratio is that good), I´m only interested in the construction of some of the boxes on the site.
Look at the Bicor 200, 2000 and the Fidileo, they all have structures that seem to exactly combine ML-TQWT (with negative taper) and regular horns. Can you really have your cake and eat it too? It would seem the two methods would fill in each others weaknesses better than just two horns of unequal length. |

Hello Squeak,
do you read the KORNETT double horn measurements? kornettmess if you have a question ask me before you write please. My experience with Lowther enclosure shows, the extra path reduce a bit the bad impedanz of the enclosure, as you see by my double horns i elimenate it more or less. best shown by the Subfanfare real single imp and real sum. fanfaremess
