If I build a set of Changs, are there any suitable drivers that might replace the Fostex FE207e or Pioneer B20 drivers listed? Also, I sent an email to David at frugalhorn.com to pursue getting the plans for the Curvy Changs. I received no reply. Is there a different email address than the one which comes up if you select the "by request" under the Curvy Changs?
Thanks |

Though relatively unproven this GRS branded driver seems to be a clone of the pioneer.... @ $12.50 a piece they're worth a shot.
GRS 8FR-8 Full-Range 8" Speaker Pioneer Type B20FU20-51FW You might try to PM David through the forum. He might even still have some 207's kicking around. You could try this, although a bigger hit to the pocketbook. I think Bob Brines is now using it to replace the 207 in his large bookshelf, with only mods to the BSC circuit. Hey, thanks for responding so quickly. I'll probably go ahead and order a pair of the Pioneer's and get started on the project for now. I'm guessing someone here has put together a pair of these and has experimented with different sets of drivers for them. If these drivers don't sound very good I won't have spent too much money one them. Do you think these enclosures be fairly forgiving if the drivers aren't an exact match to the suggested pairs? I currently own Martin Logan Request, Klipsch Heresys and Klipsch Cornwalls. I have an Outlaw preamp and Sunfire Cinema Grand I drive the MLs with in my home cinema setup. I am setting up a different home cinema area in my home and kind of got the idea of building a set of fronts as a project just for fun. I'm going to build a folded horn subwoofer as well (not needed I'm sure).

You are on your own at this point on choosing drivers for the Changs with discontinued drivers. The BOFU and HA FR8c are already substitutes. You want to look for drivers with Fs, Qts, and Vas similar to FE207. Keep in mind that the spread on the FE207 was as much as 20% dave

Well, I plan to build the Curvy Changs this weekend or next and I'll be using the GRS 8FR-8 and maybe a Goldwood GT-302/S for the highs. I may also build a set of half changs using the same driver sets. I'll keep everyone posted.
