Hi all,
I'm about to redesign my dining room and kitchen. I'm planning upon putting 2 fullrange drivesr in ceiling in their own enclosure. I'm wondering if any of you guys already done this. If so or not my questions are : 1- What would you choose as FR and Why. 2- What enclosure design would you go for \ Sealed or vented 3- And which design would that be . 4- And Finaly What fabric \ Screen would you use to cover the driver. I have 2 layers of DryWall 5/8" to work with. I Can secure the enclosures in beetween 2 trusses. Thanks for your input........ Any coments are appreciated Marc Last edited by trd1587; 17th February 2011 at 02:25 AM. |

Half Micro Tower for CHR-70? The vent would have to be turned sideways of course.
Or any of the Pensils. How much room between the studs and how much height above? |

Tom V ,
Can you be ore specific about the Micro tower design, there are like 25 desings with 2 or more drivers and all the vents are located at the driver's opposite end. As for the Height limitation I have at least 3 foot hi and 23 inches wide since the trusses are @24 inches center to center Thanks again for your input Marc |

Forget the enclosures.
Use drivers suitable for infinite baffe. (the space above your ceiling being the Vb) There are many choices since the application is so common. |

What hitsware says is a good suggestion... unless you are worried about premature aging due to heat/cold, humiidy. or being chewed on by mice or inselcts.
I did a diyA FR ref for a client in Colorado (accompanied by the same as surrounds in the walls). I did a set of thin surface mounts for for the ceiling for a fellow in California (MTM with RS40-1197 in a variation on a GM designed ML-TL) The lastest effort was a CHR70 microTower based box (never got built) dave

Over the past 25yrs I've spent more than a few hours in a trussed attic space performing renos to electrical & lighting, installing skylight and bathroom ventilation fans, etc.
While there are no doubt great acoustical advantages to the space available, this is definitely not the best location in the home to consider any type of open baffle installation with drivers from which you're hoping to see any life expectancy. Plywood or particle board enclosures sealed on the exterior exposed surfaces with fibreglass resin, and shrouded with the same level of insulation as the rest of the ceiling would be my choice.

Yes Chrisb
That is my first choice, Where I live, temperature in the attic ccan come to 50°C and -35°C Also. Open baffle is out of the question. My question remains: is there a design with a good frequency spectrum with venting and this venting could it be done around the driver itself so that I only make only one hole per driver in the ceiling... TBH, I'd probably be looking at drivers designed for this purpose. As we're talking ceiling mounting here, for use in a kitchen & dining room, outright sound quality is obviously not the no.1 priority, so I'd make life easy for yourself. E.g. We Sell Speakers! - Ceiling Speakers
