Default Looking to build some very small speakers

Hi,
I'm giving up on integrating PS3 and PVR boxes with my Lynx adapter and getting a lip sync. I don't really want it through my stereo system anyway..

So what i want is some really small speakers working from 80-110hz and upwards. I've got a 12" Peerless closed sub im intending to use below that anyway.
The speakers should be as small as you can build them. Sound quality (music wise) is not necessarily in the front seat here (but of course as good as possible ). I'll use them instead of the TV-speakers which as very poor and the speakers will be used when playing games on PS3 and watching TV and movies (on very moderate levels). Getting as much "body" out of such small speakers as possible is of course a plus.

Im thinking max size of the speakers could be about (HxW) 150x120 mm. A full range driver at 4" or less is very interesting.

Any suggestions? On both drivers and of course specific kits or projects.
Price does matter, but i can rarely say no with good recommendations

Espen

The new Alpair6m will fit in a really small box. I have done an early design (using pre-production numbers) that is 1.5 litre. Needs to be checked against production numers, and possibly revised to make the port easier (had to bend it to fit in the box). I will also be looking at what this thing does sealed for as small as possible for rear surrounds to use with a trio of A7 across the front.

Hey Dave,

Hw does the Alpair sound in the 1,5 litre box ? How loud and how deep can it go ? Are you using it with some kind of filter ? I am currently testing the Dayton ND-90-8 in 2 liters enclosure and it sound very promising with surprisingly good overal sound and relatively good bass given the speaker size. Only negative is the low sensitivity and therefore somehow limited max. SPL..

No-one has built this yet. Our A6m are still awaiting break-in bench.

By the specs the Dayton/Aura is less efficient. I've not heard it, but have the 3" Aura version. Even the old A6 creamed it, and the improvements i've heard with other MA Gen2 drivers should apply, so the differential should be even larger. The price is considerably more thou.

About 2 litre, economical driver that sounds great.

I think a full range driver like the ones you have mentioned would be the best option for me.
I'll talk with my local dealer here in Norway and ask what they can recommend. Importing stuff from the US is far too expensive, and I'll use norwegian or european dealers if possible.
Sent my Lynx Two-B to USA for repair. Costs for repair was $60 and shipment by UPS was about $330 to the states and back here. Shouldn't think the countries are on the same planet hehe.

More recommendations are welcome of course

Well, the Scan-Speak 10F/4424G is more or less local to you, coming from Denmark, and it does well in a 1-2 liter box.

With a vented design you could get an F3 of 110Hz, but you're not going to be able to make this play down to 80Hz.

And with 90dB sensitivity, you can get over 100dB out of these drivers (power limited at around 104dB, and no excursion problems with a 100Hz x-over).

Every now and then I ponder whether it is possible to build a good sounding system with satellites as small as the B*se cubes. The answer I come up with is no, but you can get close. With a box just leeetle bit bigger... Recently I got interested in some new arrival at Partsexpress. Now I am not sure which one. I could have sworn I bookmarked it. Anyway, take a look at the 2 to 3 inchers here: http://www.parts-express.com/wizards...AT&srchCat=576

What speakers did you end up using Lurer? So true that the TV speaker parts just aren't powerful enough.

I haven't decided yet. I might be able to increase the volume a little bit. I'm building a new TV/Stereo bench also so the speakers are meant to be matched to the bench/rack the best possible way.
The local dealer here mentioned a project with this driver http://www.tb-speaker.com/detail/1208_03/w3-871sc.htm.

I'm selling my CJ PFR pre amp and need those money to continue

Seas and Scan-Speak are of course Nordic brands and of good quality so I'll look some more before I decide.
