Fifteen or so years ago, I read an article in hi-fi world on positioning speakers. It gave yo an equation depending on room dimensions. I still have that mag somewhere, but can't find it.The article gave you the means by measuring the room L-W. were to place your speakers what it did'nt say was the distance from back wall to the front or back of the speaker.Do any of you brainiacs know this equation and can anyone explain this for me, preferably in the old feet and inches, Being an old dunce never did the metric thing when i was at school, I would be very grateful if you would give me this knowledge kind regards and a happy new year to all banginon

Hi,
I wouldn't think there is a single equation, I liken it to trial and error. This includes distance from the wall, spacing between them and amount of toe in or out. It all depends on your environment. |

Also depends on how the speakers interact with the room. How live the room is, etc.

any formula will be inherently flawed, it will all depend on the type of speaker/room. a starting point would be to form a triangle with you the same distance from the speakers as they are apart from each other. the center of the tweeters or fullrange cones seven feet apart and a foot or two from the rear wall with as much or more from side walls. if too bright aim them straight ahead. if not try toe in towards you. too much bass move further from the rear wall and vice versa. Some speakers require corner loading and others like open baffles need more room behind to the rear wall for the rear wave.

there are probably as many expert formulas to solve this issue as there are DIYers with the brains to deconstruct them ![]() but it couldn't hurt to kick back and read the following at Cardas Audio Cardas Audio and Cardas Audio edit: see what happened in the 3 minutes it took to type this reply and cut/paste the above links ? the brainiac was definitely a cute opening salvo of foreplay
