Well, my 3 yo niece pushed in the tweeter on my meadowlark kestrels (RIP - BTW, if anyone wants them for parts and is willing to pay shipping from 61704 they are yours!). WAF for new (or audiogon) speakers is zero. System is a JoLida 302b properly rolled with cryo'd tung-sol EL-34s. A REL Strata II provides bottom end. I need to build any new speakers. The Wife is attracted to the Zigmahrnets based on the 6 moons review, but I'm not sure. I'm a fair to middle woodworker, and am attracted to the simplicity of the plans (back loaded horns look like a real pain to build).
Any suggestions for an easy to build (BTW - I'll need step by step help, I can work wood but have never soldered before and have no electronics knowledge / training) speaker for the system described above? Thanks! - HKM |

A single full range speaker is certainly the easiest of things to solder (you could even use spade terminals...).
I'm awaiting the drivers to build http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/attac...e-ml-voigt.gif I've heard it before, and (although it's hard to take recommendations from someone over the internet), they were stunning to listen to. Far better than any multi-way system I've heard since. They would need a sub (handy, as you have one...). Oh, and welcome to the forums! Chris

Could the Markaudio CHR-70 (https://www.madisound.com/store/prod...oducts_id=8859) go here? I like the idea of extra high range...

I also found this online: http://www.markaudio.com/sites/all/f...r70-pensil.pdf Given the design the WAF would be high. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I'm a newbie, too! Looking at the Pencil designed for the Mark Audio Alpair 12. Seems like an easy build...

I built a set of Zigmahornets and i can tell you they are easy to build. as far as sound the imaging is incredible, they do lack the bottom end but the drop is around 80-90Hz. this may have to do with the drivers i used. took apart my Yamaha center chane, speaker and used the 4.5" drivers out of it. the WAF is HIGH! she actually loves the look and the sound. now i have to do something with my Audio Nirvana 8" drivers. not sure i can come up with something that sounds good and meets the WAF
Running a DIY-35 with JJ el84's, 5751, 12bh7a with a phillips CDI900 CD player. |
