Sorry, the CSS EL70 is a consideration as well.

Having heard all the named smaller drivers, 1 vote for the Alpair 7

Of the 3 mentioned the Alpair7 is also my favorite, but also the most expensive.
The FE125 & EL70 are similarily priced and are really a 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. The more extended top of the EL70 probably gives it the edge in this application over the FR. And if one is considering drivers in that price & size range, the CHR is also a worthy candidate. Of the 3 my personal pic would be EL70 if i couldn't afford the A7 -- with the Altec i'd guess your budget is likely not that restrictive. One of the beauties of a FAST is that one need worry about the bass response of the FR as that is all handled by the BIG woofer. A good grounding in this kind of system starts with Martin King's passive open baffle. Tremendouse performance can be had with a modest baffle. dave

Yeah, budget not that restrictive. I have Altec A7's at moment and need too do work on cabinets. OB panels I inherited and thought this would be an interesting experiment. Thanks for your response Dave. What are the audible sound differences between these 3 speakers CSS FR125S, EL70 or Alpair 7 if that is a fair question? More familiar with peoples experience with the Alpair of course. Last edited by Monte Verdi; 28th June 2010 at 09:04 PM. |
