A tower would be somewhat compromised because of the 1/4 wave resonance.
The FonkenPrime has been morphed into a floorstander thou (althou the Mk II was shortened a bit and a false base added), and the Fonken167 (and Mar-Kel^2) are made into floorstanders by grafting on a false base.
The idea is to use high aspect ratio ports to add a nominal resistance to the ports to make them more tolerant of changing T/S parameters with level.
A standard BR assumes that T/S are scalers. In reality they are a curve/manifold F(V,weather) and a tightly tuned BR turns out to be properly tuned in only one place of the curve.
