Another newbie FR OB question...

Hi!

Just a quick basic FR OB question.

If I was planning to run a FR driver (such as a Alpair 7 or 12 / Fostex / Visaton B200) with a pair of active subwoofers in stereo to fill out the mid to low bass, does the dimensions of the baffle really matter?

I ask this because I have a small room and space is at a premium, and I had pretty much discounted OB as an option.

If I put an Alpair 7 (for example) on a thin baffle just wider than the driver up to seated head height and ran them full range, how low are they likely to get?

I was thinking about supplementing this with either two small sealed subwoofers, or even two to four *small* OB subwoofers depending on size (?Hawthorne 10" Augie / ?SDX) running from a couple of plate amps. Smaller and multiple would be better. There's no way I could manage 15" or 18" woofers ala "MJK Jordan and Goldwoods".

Does this sound reasonable? Would this work okay, or would the crossover from FR on a narrow baffle to pro-audio small subwoofer be too high and compromise the sound? I don't need the bass to go incredibly low or loud.

If this is possible, anyone have suggestions on the FR driver and a suitable small (?10") woofer for OB?

Otherwise I'll probably go a compact TL design, Tysen or Fonken such as those by Planet10.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

The baffle needs to be wide enuff to let the FR/OBs bass reach the woofers -- if you want them narrow you need to think about woofers, not subwoofers.

You will need to roll-off the bottom of the FR -- prefereably in front of the amplifier.

Yep... but I'm just wondering how low the drivers would go on a minimal baffle.

On the Mark Audio website it gives a frequency response curve and it seems to roll off below 100Hz, but is that at 1W in free air?

For example, if I mounted the Alpair 12 just on a pole (essentially no baffle), at what approximate frequency would I have to cross in a woofer? Would I get close to 200Hz with the naked driver? 100Hz? 600Hz?

Sorry... but I'm a complete novice!
