Default FE206E and surround ?

I'm getting close to finishing a pair of Fostex recommended horns for a couple of 206e's . Has anyone used these speakers as mains in a surround system along with the FE107E in the BR box for center and rear channels?

I've got consumer Polk monitors right now and just think a fostex based system would have to sound better.

Thanks for any feedback.

I have 206eN in the 208eZ Sigma box for my stereo and surround front. I had a couple of FE87e for center but now are used for the L/R surround and use a virtual center (it is almost excellent if you are in the sweet spot). I am very pleased with the result. Get a decent subwoofer!

Thanks Cross, I'll look at the 87s.

I've got a 4x12" T/L sub that I'm pretty happy with.

So you like the 206 driver in the 208 horn?

FE87E are no longer available now. Actually Fostex decided to cease production of the FE magnetically shielded models and the whole FF line. However, there's no replacement for both. I'm not sure if that's because of the fact that Japan is in deep financial trouble.

The FE206e recommended horn is not amongst their best work... 208 horn is usually recommended as a better bet for the 206e.

I haven't looked too closely at them but the new FE83En should be a reasonable sub. It is hard to make a 3" driver with a really low Q, so should be suited to BR, matter of fact there is another thread right now about them.

Kripes you mean I gotta build another set of horns?

thanks for the heads up Dave, I'll wander over to the 83En thread and read for a while. I had seen some talk about the 208 box being better-but just put my faith in the factory guys. I'll print off the 208 plans and start procrastinating right away.

thanks borispm, makes you go Hmmmm

The factory doesn't have a very good track record. Lots better than any of the fostex factory horns.

I know this is a loaded question but, which horn would you recomend Dave? I had seriously looked at the Sachiko double horn-I have no WAF to worry about, so I'm able to consider all candidates.

Cool job you have Dave, I enjoy what I do but it's just a job. Thanks for your help and knowledge.

wow the last set of plans I wanted to tackle, I can build fairly well, but those will be a challenge for me.

Thanks Dave and Chris, I didn't intend for this thread to turn into a discussion of old news. Thanks to all for putting up with blind folks plodding along.

I will finish the cabs I have and look forward to an upgrade in the future, based on better info.

Thanks again
