Default PA Line Array Advice

Hey, I stumbled on this forum while doing some research for my line array project... nice folks here

So I want to build two line arrays for my band to use for small gigs... as cheep as possible.

I was thinking 12 per side of these drivers: Parts-Express.com:2" Full Range Aluminum Cone Neodymium Driver | 2" Full Range Aluminum Cone Neodymium Driver line array midbass woofer 2" driver shielded woofer midwoofer

First question:
Would these drivers go high enough without tweeters? I'll build some subs too so they don't need to go too low.

Second Question: Would I be better off with twice as many of these drivers?
Parts-Express.com:JAMO 30466/30462 2-1/2" x 4" Shielded Speaker | JAMO 30466 30462 4" x 2-1/2" Shielded Speaker 7 Ohm driver speaker midrange mid oval tv pc full range line array factory_buyout_sale

This is my first diy project... so be gentile please

Thanks so much!!!

Couple of point that will hopefully be of help:

First, you're posting in the wrong place. This section is for discussion of fullrange speakers - that means speakers where one speaker unit is used to attempt to cover most or all of the reproduced spectrum. You might get more help by moving to the musical instrument section.

Second, the drivers you're looking at will be poor choices for your application. For PA use, you need speakers that have high sensitivity and somewhat high power handling in a rugged package.

A line array is currently back in style, but isn't always the best answer. If you want the best thing for your application inexpensively, you might first look around at used PA speakers - I bought a 100 watt Fender tube PA with 2 "line array" speaker cabinets a few years back for less than $300.

If you really want to build your own cabs, try to keep it simple and think through all the details as well as possible. For DIY, you might consider building some simple cabs of the right size and put one of these in each:
Parts-Express.com:Eminence Beta-12LTA 12" Full-Range/PA Driver | beta-12lta full range driver full range pa driver keyboard speaker 12" full range driver
With that you won't need a crossover at first and it would blow away the ones you were proposing, plus be much easier to build. Later you could add a crossover and a compression driver to add some highs if you wanted.

You may want to make it a two way system by adding a tweeter (as there may be combing effect with so many drivers) or bi to tri amp the array (like the Altec Lansing FX6021 did).

Both options are not really good indeed. The aluminum driver may have break-up at a bit higher than 10kHz, the Jamo can't handle much power. If you do not want a complicated crossover, try an array of 16 Aurasound NSW1-205-8A and you'll end up with 90dB/W, but it is a bit expensive and you'll need to cross it LR4 at around 250Hz to sound best.
