Default Some basic 1st timers doubts

Heya,

I have been reading alot about DIY full range speakers lately and really want to get to building one. Those big full on horns look nice but will never fit my room 4m by 4.5m. I really loved a few pics I saw of the buschhorn. So considering building that, or a frugal horn level 0. Only the designed to be placed in a corner scares me a little because all the extra bass I ever got out of corners was very boomy. The drivers i've been looking at are fostex 108ez and the 168ez.

Before I used to own a pair of Epos Acoustics M12.2, bass was plenty on them just a tad bit on the bright side for me paired with a Musical fidelity a3 SS amp.

So looking for some recommendations or other advice. Did alot of searching and still really curious to how these things sound compared to my old commercial system, or maybe some other more widely available 2 ways. I don't need room shaking bass from them, will probably look into adding an active sub later. I'd be really gratefull if I could get a few more articles and readings, or maybe some experiences which are close to my situation.

Regards,
Jonatan

Planning on going for a 300B set DIY tube amp. Used to own a pretty nice tube headphone setup and really want to get back to tubes.

Assuming that while you're pondering you still have the MF amp & Epos speakers, you say you find the combination has a bit too much up-top? Try a high inductance speaker wire. Just grab some appropriate gauge zip cord (to keep voltage drop within acceptable margins) and unzip it, viz. separate the send & return legs. That should help take some of the energy out of the HF. Random draping isn't necessarily advisible, although it's rarely a big problem -better; get some thick dowel rod or thin strips of wood, drill a couple of holes through them x distance apart & feed the wires through, so they're held more or less the same distance apart throughout the run.

Corner loading shouldn't give 'boom' in a box that is designed from the outset to be corner loaded, although rooms by nature are the least predictable item in the entire sound reproduction chain. Still, that's no big deal: just damp the speaker down if it's an issue. You can always loose what you have too much of. Increasing what you don't have in the first place is a bit tricker.
