Default Goals for my build

First allow me to introduce myself. I'm a 44 year professional in the healthcare field who loves all things audio. For the last 5 years I've run my home recording studio, www.vinecrestaudio.com , as a hobby. I've bulit my own speaker cabs for bass guitar using plans from www.talkbass.com, plans by greenboy. I've also constructed all the furniture in my studio as well as a plate reverb unit.
My current goal is to build two nice speaker cabinet for listening to final mixes with friends and clients. I will not be using these to create mixe but instead they will be used to review the final mix.
Here's what I want.
1) $300 budget for two 8 inch full range speakers, cost of wood and harware not included.
2) cabs can be up to 12 inches wide
3)cabs can be up to 36 inches deep
4) cabs can be up to 42 inches tall.
5)weight is of no concern
6)I'd prefer not to have to create any sort of crossover or any sort of electronics beyond simply hooking speaker wire up to power amp. (Thus why I searched for a full range speaker cab project).
7)Final product must have some degree of wow factor.
8) Must sound great (mostly record pop/rock or modern praise/gospel.)
I'm open to any suggestions regarding speaker cab design and speakers.
My first preference would be to build some sort of rectangular folded horn enclosure.
Thanks for looking.

First pic is a guitar isolation cabinet. There is a wooden door, not pictured. When the door is closed the amp can be turned up to very loud volume without killing everyone in the room. A built in mic allow the speaker to be recorded. Guitarist often like to crank it up to get their sound just right. This little unit helps protect the rest of us.

Spawn cabs would work, but they don't fit your height requirement

I saw those cabs and they look way cool. Pretty tall but may still be a possibility. I'll have to measure the ceiling where I planned on putting these speakers. Of course I could rearrange things and put them on the taller end of the room. My studio has a deep ceiling slant along one egde.

What would be the net effect of making the lower 2/3 of that cab and deleting the top 1/3?

The half Chang sounds like a good fit. It's a little bit taller than you spec'ed (46") but I think you could get by with it. A couple of things though. First, the driver for this cab is going out of production (Fostex FE 207e). Second, what kind of electronics will be used to drive these? If I remember right, I believe the Fostex FE drivers like higher impedance tube amps.

I was hoping on using one of my studio power amps, 75 watts max per channel.
Any reason I shouldn't use this type of amp?

I wouldn't not be pushing these speakers very hard, I'm too old to crank it up to 11.
I was thinking of using Fostex FE206E's.
They look like a bargain.

Yes, the half Chang looks like a great fit. The design looks relatively easy to build.
Thanks for the suggestion. It will go the front of the list.

First off the FE206e is already gone. Its replacement is still an unknown beast. It will probably work in Sachiko, but it is at this point an unknown. You cannot decrease Sachiko's size.

The halfChang with FE207 is a better bet. Get your FE207e while you can.

The Alesis is far from an ideal amplifier for either of these (note that the specs say it is 45w/channel). Its high damping factor will force the need for a filter of some sort, otherwise things will be a bit thin. Also the efficiency of these speakers will lay bare the amplifier's worst.
