Has anyone tried this driver in a sealed box? It has qts of .44, which seems borderline for sealed, or am I being pessimistic? Also, to anyone who has tried this driver (in any type of enclosure) -- how do you find the treble quality? Thanks in advance. |

Hey Zoodle,
I have a pair, (not in a sealed box) see conical horn damping material... The treble is a bit lacking. Compared to my fullrange speakers I was missing a lot of details. But with a side firing philips tweeter it is not so bad. Details are ample now, and the side firing tweet isn't disturbing the soundstage. Last edited by pauldune; 30th March 2010 at 02:41 PM. |

Have you heard this (the W5) compared to similar fullrange drive units? If so, which ones? I currently have 90mm units, and the treble is quite lively. I wonder if a larger, heavier cone might not be as detailed at higher frequencies as a small cone. |

Not really expensive, but pretty good. Only because of the 3 speakers with large overlap, lobing is quit noticable. If you move your head left/right or up down, the sound changes a lot. But on the other hand, in the sweet spot they sound pretty good. I'm considering replacing the tangbands for mark audio alpair 10's, to get rid of the supertweeter. (the tangband are going in the enclosure Jorn proposed, but with a build in permanent rear or side firing tweet) If I swap them for the alpairs, i'll inform you.... gr. Paul |

I swapped them... They sound better than the TB's. But on my SE tube amp, still not enough high. With supertweeter added they were really good..

Thanks for updating. Do you feel the alpairs have better treble than the TBs? (I mean without using a super tweeter)
And how about bass performance? (TB v Alpair) And the mid range? I'm considering alpair, so your comments would be useful. |

Yes, bass and treble are both improved. Treble was almost enough. Maybe with a SS amp, it would be enough. My SE tube amp without gfb has a disadvantage there....
