Has anybody seen these enclosures on eBay? Western Electric Altec 755a 755c,e Vtg Cab Repro Cabnt - eBay (item 360245682734 end time Mar-31-10 11:58:06 PDT)
I always assumed these were too small to be of value, so I'm trying to figure out why anyone would reproduce them. What gives? (Don't want to brag, but I went to an antique radio club auction a couple of weeks ago and spotted one of these enclosures (in ratty condition). Inside was a KS14703! I ended up paying $100. I knew someone might want the matching transformer inside, but I never dreamed someone might want the enclosure! I'll have the KS14703 out and in an open baffle sometime soon. Pete |

I don't have the KS12046 in my database, though pictorially it's a KS12035 which uses a KS14703 that the 755A superceded. Regardless, all the WE data I have lists 2 ft^3 net as optimum for the 755.
Anyway, sounds like you lucked-up on a golden oldie cab/driver combo. GM

GM,
Thanks for the reply. I have also only seen 2 cu ft as the optimum volume. Aside from looking cool I don't know why anyone would want those reproduction cabinets. I've been trying to get farm reports on the radio here in the New Jersey suburbs! No luck so far - |

Greets!
Dunno, especially at the price. Considering its original intended app though, I can see why it could be technically way too small for the 755, yet still work well due to a signal chain that would severely limit its LF BW. Why would you want farm reports? All the parts of NJ I've been too was mostly either paved over or had a structure on it. Even scrubs and trees were very sparse, though I've been told that central NJ is quite a bit a more natural. GM

Sorry -it was a poor effort at a joke! However, I live and work at the Jersey Shore and it's certainly much nicer than what people see flying into Newark Airport!
