Hi guys. I was wondering, has anyone tried the B200 in BIB? Any listening impressions? Thanks.

I actually tried the B200 in an undersized BIB (12"x18"x72") years ago. Tremendous, if not overwhelming, bass punch. Would work great as efficient non-fussy tv speakers powered by the tv's internal amp and surround circuitry. As now the hdtv broadcasts warrant quality speakers. For music it will occasionally produce an odd sounding resonance, but that is happens in all for these big gain rear loaded cabinets.
The B200 is underrated. One of the few versatile single driver speakers that is balanced enough not to need help on top or bottom. If you your room cannot tolerate a big BIB or strictly for music, I would use the B200 in an aperiodic much smaller cabinet. |

Question, did you double up the front and back of your BIB? I noticed this 'resonance' goes away when reducing vibrations. Bigger Is Better 'BIB' Cabinet Dimensions - ZillaSpeak.com Probably sounds amazing in a BIB! Godzilla |

re: B200 & BIB "hit" in the chest? does it produce that much power?

Zilla, did not "double up" front or rear, but used cross sectioned bracing. I did another RCA-Fan horn and it too would produce an odd resonance every so often at some frequency. I heard this too at the Fostex room at the CES in their large rear loaded horn (I think made by Madisound). I attribute this to an artifact of big gain rear loaded horns. The resonance is not audible to everyone or at least they are not aware of it. And/or I may not be describing it accurately. When I brought the resonance to the attention of a another listener they described it as "wooly" or that particular frequency was simply louder. I think the resonance is definitely more audible on these large gain rear horns as the horns are producing a greater bandwidth of amplification which is inherently harder to keep even especially when you factor in room gain or suckouts. But, yes by making a more massive cabinet you would remove it as the culprit.
freddi, not "hit in the chest" bass. Lower more throbbing, rattling the windows type of bass. Yet, not quite subsonic, probably around 40 to 50Hz though I did not measure it. (Your Karlson has more "hit.") In my particular BIB, admittedly not designed for the B200, I think the addition of another smaller full range would balance out the sound. Doing so of course would require some trial and error, but the resultant efficiency is alluring. |

The B200 comes in a few versions.
I wonder which version might suit a tapped horn?

is there partial confusion in this tread between the little Visaton 8" fullrange and KEF's classic oval woofer? BIB depending upon aspect will trade off the upper bass gain vs same bulk horn/pipehorn with cutoff set 1/2 octave higher. Simulations of BIB don't show much power handling with typical fullrange xmax. I've on backorder a Peavey IPR 3000 - might change that to 6000 with 1KW/channel/8ohm to kick Karlson with dynamics - but 500+W @8/channel is probably enough for midbass
