Default new full range believer

Hello, this is my first post and, wanted to share my new single driver full range speaker. These speakers does everything better than the Totem Model 1 monitors that I had(I sold them), I'm now a true believer in full range single driver. I hope the link works to my video of my system. I'm burning in a set of shuguang treasure kt88-z and took some video of the speakers and my highly hot rodded dynaco MKII. I also have a pass labs aleph 3 that I will be trying out the speakers as well. I just can't believe that the 4.5 inch driver is able to produce such low frequencys. The sub is not on in the video, in fact, I'm thinking of selling them. If you have a desent pair for headphones, I would use them to listen to the video, you can hear the bass better. The bass these puts out is impressive . thanks for letting me share.

System Video

Sweet looking and sounding speakers! But those 'cable isolators' are bunk. Toss 'em!

Default welcome to the nightmare of single drivers...

or better yet perhaps the addiction. Which Fostex drivers? Did you EnABL them or did you get a set from Dave? Regardless looks like a great "first" fullrange project (but certainly not your first). Amps? sources (just curious). I did check out your video . Nice!

I've had OB fullrangers, 4 different planet10 designed (2 built by chrisb of planet10) fullrange designs in my house for various periods of time. I am always amazed at how well they have all performed. Perhaps the biggest let down was my experience with the Demetris, but that is more driver related than enclosure, as the enclosure was not optimized for the Hemp Acoustics FR8 drivers that I put into them.

Cable isolators are just for looks, i got them doing some work from a friend. I'm so enchanted by the speakers, they are more detailed than the totems I had.

I see what you mean by addiction. The driver is 4.5 fe126EN and sound amazing, I never thought that a 4.5 inch speaker can really do full range. I used my sterophile bass warbble tones, output to 30 hz was loud an clean but drops pretty fast after that, down to 20 hz was very faint. very convincing, does not have the punch as the 12 inch driver but, very convincing for the size of the driver.

>>> does everything better than the Totem Model 1...

Totem got beaten up in a recent Stereophile review and here again LOL. To me, Totem represents exactly what full range drivers try to make better. Speakers with crossovers can be fatiguing to listen too. Maybe the Totem's go deeper (maybe not bc of the sophisticated back horn cabinet manufacturers like Totem don't want to spend money on building). Totem's may extend higher in frequency (maybe not bc the fostex you are using extend past 20khz on axis). As lauded as the Totem's mids may be, i can't imagine them being better than any full or wide range fostex. Maybe i am wrong. But i have heard Totem's on their own and found them just another expensive two-way with all the problems of a two-way using a small, inefficient woofer, crossover and dome tweeter - bloated, unnatural bass, recessed mechanical sounding mids and rolled off, soft treble. Despite their shortcomings the designer at least voiced the speakers to sound better than typical, cheaper, bright sounding speakers and made an honest effort to blend the drivers without everything sounding disconnected. They still left me unsatisfied overall due to the fact i am accustomed to better sounding DIY speakers... something we all can benefit from at this forum! Enjoy your back horns. They look great and i'll bet they sound great too.

That's a nice system you have.
But uh, what's the story behind the enclosures?

I have the same question. They look like TL's.

+1 on the system. The MKII's running triode strapped?
