Default Newbie question for UK full rangers

Hi,

I'm a newbie at this forum and I have only recently revived an interest in DIY hi-fi. I last did any about 35 years ago when I put some Wharfedale Linton two-way sets in some totally innappropriate sealed boxes which I listened to in blissful ignorance for three or four years whilst at uni. Since then I have been on the commercial hi-fi route in which I have reached a level that further progress is becoming prohibitively expensive. To this end I have decided to DIY some cheapish speakers and stack them up against my Gemme Vivace's to determine if I have been wasting my money. To this end I intend to build some of Scott's Lotus^2 or Coniston^2.

Can anyone give me some guidance on the sourcing MA chr70 or CSS el70 units in the UK, what's the easiest/best/cheapest way of sourcing them.

BTW does anyone know when Woden Designs website likely to be up?

Best wishes Steve J.Click the image to open in full size.

Hi Steve,

I don't know of a UK supplier for the CHR70 or EL70. However I sourced my EL70s from Wolfgang at Breitbandlautsprecher und mehr - SpectrumAudio, they are listed under the News section of the site not the CSS section of the Products page. They came to 90 euros plus 16 euros shipping to the UK for a single pair. This was certainly the best price when I was looking in December last year. He also sells the CHR70 for 64 euros the pair and I was quoted similar shipping costs for them. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ewan

You can also buy the CHR units direct from Mark Audio.

Woden will be up, er, when time permits.

Thanks guys,

I had come across both these sources and was really just confirming that I would have to import. I better just get on with it. Thanks again.

Hi essjay,

This might be a bit late in the day but you can get the MA drivers (and a whole lot more) from Europe-Audio:
CHR 70 GOLD - Markaudio high-end Alpair fullrange driver Gold - EUROPE AUDIO

As they are in EU there's no hassle ordering from them apart from VAT charged at the local rate of 19% . Delivery is by DPD courier and usually takes about 3 days.

I've used them in the past and have been very satisfied with their service.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Thanks Steve,

I hadn't found this site and it looks really useful. It seems a little cheaper than Spectrum Audio and gives discounts for multiple units, which is definitely a plus as I shall need four CHR70s for the Lotus^2 mBVR. I wiil definitely give them a try.

Cheers, Steve J.
