Just some pics for comments. I started this project 2 days ago after receiving a pair of 10F3 Fostex drivers I won on eBay. Scrolling arounf the net I found a design that has much in common (at least looks) with the beloved Fonken speakers so I just had to build a pair. I am in the process of veneering them now and should have the final product by tomorrow. I will be trying a filter with these that includes a 10R, 0.9mH, and 4.7uF all in series.

Jeff,
The Solo 103s was one of the inspirations for the original miniOnken... that and an Onken design in a late 70s Audax design guide. dave PS: i don't know that i'd restrict air floor around the actual alnico slug bu covering the pass-thru with felt.

Dave,
I am wanting to know what your thoughts are on wood type to use for these types of projects we have been discussing on the various threads. My local lumber yard carries tree types of veneer ply (oak, maple, and birch) The Oak and Maple are 5 ply whereas the Birch is 9 ply. They also carry 1/2 baltic birch which is 12 ply and the 3/4" can be ordered. The Oak and Maple seem to have the lowest voids and also seem to be the densest. Which of these is the best for the Metronomes, Fonken, and other similar designs? Prices are very similar with the exception being the Baltic birch, seems a bit more expensive per sqft. Jeff |

More plys the better... that is an odd number of plys for 1/2" (12mm) BB... 1st it should be an odd number do the grain on both sides runs the same way. And that is more plys than i've seen, 12mm = 9, 16mm = 11, 18mm = 13 plys.

I have 2 questions. How did you deside on that placement of the enable design and
how did you come up with that 10 ohm .9mh and 4.7uf filter. The reason I ask is I too have a pair of those drivers. |

Woody,
The spots on his don't follow the EnABL pattern. And i'm gonna guess from the numbers you posted that yours are in need of a recharge or have stiff surround syndrome. Means that they won't work well in this box. dave
