Default DCGold fullrange cones 35hz -3db @96db sensitivity??

DC Gold Audio : N9.5R [N9.5R] - $ 475.07

are these claims real? anyone tested them? price per pair would be fair if they are...

also very nice construction... no specs on site. there is an old thread here from 2007 when the company passed hand, both the original designer and the new holder of the company seem to be members of the forum. but then not a word about them from 2007, and no realiable impressions on how they sound or on measured specs...

I heard products from this company many years ago, when it was called Babb audio. IIRC, they had extremely high Qt - good for car or boat audio. There are no frequency response, polars, or T/S parms at that site. I would proceed cautiously.

Greg -

Do you know if this was Babb info, or info from later in the transition from Babb to DCGold? I have a pair of 534s, and the Babb info page on them. Differs considerably from the tech info link above in several respects, most notably Fs. Babb had a figure for "Fs [R]" of 47.07 Hz and a figure for "Fsa" of 30.88 Hz. Mms of 7.56 gm, Vas of 19.74 liters, BL of 3.45 Tesla. (Also, the all-important "Rubb and Buzz Average" of 0.10%)

As I dimly recall, you had some experience with the Loreleis that suggested that Babb was doing something right. -Pat

always speaking out of curiosity what is the compromise of such an high Q/low fs design? slow sound? bad transient response? the sensitivity figure is very high so is the claimed HF response said to be flat up to 19khz and they have no whizzer...

These are measured specs that IIRC Alan did ~under pressure from me and others after he waltzed us around about how T/S specs were misleading WRT his product's performance and I got them today from one of the 2003 web archives, so not DC Gold.

Yes, overall the Lorelei is my idea of a truly 'close enough' full-range driver (it's a very wide BW 4th order BP) and its power handling allows above average dynamic headroom at audibly low distortion, but the trade-off is it wants a lot of clean power due of course to its low sensitivity. Alan said he drove his with 400 W IIRC.

It needed more development though and his major market wanted even more than its already too wide a power response (IMO) for proper HIFI/HT apps plus it had some peaking issues that would set your teeth on edge unless you sat pretty far away in a big room.

There was some talk of maybe having two versions down the road, but alas, it's probably not going to happen now, what with the USSA's economy circling the drain with no end in sight.

BTW, is it just me having trouble getting DIYaudio to load? All day I've been unable to view/post without a bunch of hassle. I've re-booted, cleared cookies several times, but the only way I can do anything is to to click on where I want to go, then when it doesn't, I have to close the tab and re-load it from the history folder to complete the action.

from the dcgold site, designs seems to have been refined with the said Alan working as a consultant:

It is +/- 3 dB from 35 Hz to 19 kHz. With a 96 dB sensitivity, it plays well with most amps rated at 25 watts RMS or better. More power does not hurt - it will take 80 watts continuous and 300 watt peaks.

can the sensitivity figure be so out of what is claimed?

No problems at all with the site here. if you are under a windows environment i strongly suggest you to download chrome browser, its architecture is far less prone to degenerate after a long time being installed. is everything else working fine over the internet? site not working can depend over a quantity of reasons not necessarily within your computer nor within the site itself, so wait some days before taking serious acts (like reinstalling the system, checking your connection settings/hardware)

Well, conventional wisdom say so, but if their other drivers have the same type of phase plug grill as the Lorelei, then in a properly sized sealed cab it could be more like optimally damped and maybe why Alan kept contending that T/S measurements (which are extremely small signal) of his drivers could be misleading.

WRT high sensitivity, I don't see how it could and be very wide BW also, especially considering the extremely low Vas of some models.

Getting 19 kHz without whizzer isn't hard to do, but it takes a phase plug to distribute it properly, so again I'm guessing that it has a Lorelei type grill.

Yeah, XP Pro/Firefox 3.6 and only DIYaudio is causing me grief.
