I'm seeking opinions as to whether it would be possible to get good sound out of Coral Flat 5s in a PAWO similar to that used with the FE127E.
Tom Zurowski PAWO Rear Loaded, Wide Baffle, Side Venting FR125S Horn any advice gratefully received.

I love the wide and shallow cabinets. I love Coral too
Good luck with the project. Last edited by lazyfly; 23rd February 2010 at 05:41 AM. Reason: typo's! |

I should be noted that the Supra-baffles on the Planet10 bamboo PAWOs were originally intended to accommodate switching from the original CSS FR125 (which delivered far better performance in other designs). Since we previously had found the FE127E to be a "go to" driver - i.e. works reasonably well in just about any box, and particularly so in certain ones, it seemed a logical choice. I think the best description of the difference between these 2 drivers in the PAWO enclosure is that while the Fostex doesn't impress with as much bass energy and impact, it certainly behaves more gracefully when driven near / at its limits, and has a presence in the mid-range that by comparison I find lacking in the FR125. That said, if you're looking for a wide/shallow design, I'd suggest that you also consider the Mileva. I've built/lived with both designs, and find the Mileva easier in terms of build complexity and room placement. If you do decide on the PAWO, I'd suggest mirror imaging the plans for additional flexibility of placement in regards to side wall boundaries or furniture.
