well, the best speaker cables I had my money invested in were some simple...diy solid core cables made from coaxial antenna cable!
Believe me it made a huge difference to my Wharfedale diamonds...they now sound livelier and punchier, clearer and more dynamic!
But this is with some relatively neutral sounding speakers...fullrange speakers tend to be a bit more on the shiny side,so it all depends on everything really!
There are lots of nice mates around here that can give you a hand in your quest for cables!
but in my humble opinion, youŽll hear the difference!

Basic two-conductor speaker wire between 12-16awg would do fine

Spend your money on the drivers. Worrying about cables is like worrying about how pure the air is in your tires. Glowbug understands this.

Cat5 solid core. Split the colored cables from their striped counterpart. 4 conductors per side. Works well for me.

Josh

Edit: forgot to mention, I tried the braided cat5 (3 cables) and I prefer the single cable to 3.

We tried the braided cable, a single cable, and a pair of single strands from the bundle (split apart and either separated or would in opposite spirals around a neutral holder) and preferred the last -- as long as your speakers are efficient enuff that current needs are not high.

Speaker Wire Pair Nakamichi Banana Plug

Check out the Topping TP-21 T-amp while you are there too.

I made my own cables from 14 gauge wire, but I think I spent $30 between the wire and the banana plugs, so the p-mac's look like a deal.
