I started building speakers around 4-5 years ago when the dollars were still having some decent values

You'll probably get more responses in the main loudspeakers forum, as this section is primarily devoted to full-range / wide-band drive units. However, FWIW, you might want to take a look at the Dayton range of tweeters / midbass units, especially the RS models.
