I've got a free pair of these,
Parts-Express.com:*Galaxy Audio S5C160-8 5" Full Range Driver | transducer sound monitor hot spot galaxy full range driver full range drivers driver audio audi And wondered if anybody had any suggestions for a full range cab for these. Currently I've been using them in some edgar style tractrix midhorns but I'm getting ready to switch back to some compression drivers for mid duty and would rather not let these go unused. Any ideas? -Josh

I had been interested in this little guy as well, but it kinda fizzled after I saw the Dayton PA-130 beating it (on paper only) for less money. The best I could whip up back then for this driver is 6 or 7 liters tuned at 125 to 140Hz. Or 4.5" x 7.5" x 11" (internal) with a 1.75" hole (assuming 0.75" material). There's no x-max spec on the PE page, which could mean two things IMO. Either the x-max is so low, like in the 0.5mm or even 0mm range, that the manufacturer or PE just leaves it out. Or the x-max may be reasonably low, like 1mm, and the manufacturer doesn't want know-nothings skipping over this driver as soon as seeing that. Either way, assume that it is quite low, and you're gonna need to highpass aggressively at 150Hz or a more low-parts-count XO nearer 300Hz. Even a 2 liter sealed box can't save you from posible over-excursion here. Were it me, OB highpassed at 500Hz and biamped. Kinda an odd duck.

Yeah,
that's kind of what I came up with. Oh well, I'll keep em around in case I need some midrange... -Josh

Or else, What about subbing this instead of the Fe167e in MJK's dual 15A OB design? & I'm thinking using the MinDSP 2ch XO+PEQ to boost the 300-700Hz range. Hmmm. cheers Doug
