Fostex has a ton of different models but it seems like the most venerated and seemingly best performing ones (theoretically by modeled specs only) are some of the more reasonably priced ones. I was wondering if any of you have any insight into what it is exactly that makes the higher priced models such as the sigma line more valuable.

construction materials and a supposedly more refined sound. in the case of the FE166ES-R, a large cobalt lanthaum magnet, high sensitivity and a flat fq resp. among other things set it apart from a FE166E.

What does "a more refined sound" mean?
