Default Best 8" Drivers Out There?

I have a friend of a friend who wants to put the best possible eight inch full range drivers in a pair of transmission line type cabs that are already made. He has considered Alec 755's and Tru-Sonics. He can afford, and wants the best. What is recommened?

Sincerely,

Benjamin

You can't just pop any driver into an already built enclosure.... you need to pick one that will work in the enclosure.

Some hundred drivers are applicable in my mind... Never build a TML-box and then try to find a driver for it; it will never sound good, only reasonable...

So don't waste your money, chose a driver on specs with the idea of an TML, and then build the TML. Else it's just going to be a nightmare tuning/testing finding the right driver!

What are the specs of the existing TL enclosures or what drivers came out of them? There is probably an 8" FR driver out there that would be very happy in them wheather it is expensive or otherwise. Then Bill Gates can build a dreamy expensive FR cabinet with some high dollar drivers as his next project or commission you to. It would be best that he not know diyAudio makes world class sound with inexpensive components, might ruin the whole experience for him.

I recommend either the Pioneer B20 with a helper tweeter or the Seas 8" fullrange... or anything in between. Not too many bad choices only different flavors.

Enabl'd 8 incher's

1.) Ridiculously colorful and dynamic, Lowther PM6A 16 ohm silver voice coil.
2.) Nicely colorful, nicely detailed and in between, Audio Nirvana Super 8. I am told an alnico version is in the works so might go to the head of the list.
3.) Ridiculously detailed and perfectly correct, Fostex F200 A.

Everything else, none of which I have any personal experience with. Not discounting them, just no knowledge.
