What sort of spacing were you envisioning? John K has shown us that randomly spaced masses have a profound effect upon measured frequency response. The masses were rather extreme, being small lumps of clay, but the idea was intriguing. The frequency response of a rather ragged 7 inch aluminum driver was significantly smoothed, but I wonder what they actually sounded like?
