Has anyone heard the Audio Nirvana super 8 in Alnico? I'm not finding much info out there other than one post that compares them favorably to Lowthers.
Has anyone purchased these, and if so, how do they sound? Thanks! |

i too would be interested to hear what it as to offer...
davids dicks from commonsenseaudio told me he likes them better than lowthers...except maybe for the midrange but the super 12 cast frame were a better value. |

I am also trying to decide which Audio Nirvana driver to pick, i am trying decided between the 12"cast or the 8" alnico. I have decided to go with the 2.8 cabinet. Can anyone advise the strengths and weakness's of these two drivers.Cheers.

the best would be to ask dick at CSA. i only have the 12 cast frame and this is my only fullrange so i cant compare. i have it crossed with a woofer at 300 hz and what i can say is that it alleviated the AN of some burden for sure compared to the single driver. i havent found a way yet to make it sound acceptably pleasant and natural sounding. but i feel there is alot of potential for this driver either fullrange or crossed. on some tracks it really draws me into the music though. for example "kill em all" sounds awsome.
hope it helps |

Hello,
AFAIK the Qts of the 8"alnico is high so no horn driver, very deep, i used the normal 8" in my SAXOPHON and think they sound in the right enclosure better than Fostex 206 and a few Lowther, for the money good driver. my experience: http://www.hm-moreart.de/23.htm

Thanks for that, i have decided to go with the Cast12"..i asked Dave he said the 8"alnicos sound smoother and sweeter at more moderate volumes but the 12's are more dynamic and handle louder volumes. Occasionally i like to pump my stereo so i am going with the 12's. Looking very forward to this project..should i make my cab's out of MDF or berch?
Thanks Again. |

By "berch" I assume you are referring to birch plywood. You'd want to use that instead of actual birch since it will not have the irregularity of solid wood.
I used birch ply with my Super 12s and they sound great. I used 2 3" ports, although others have used the 6", which I believe is what Common Sense Audio is recommending to many folks now. |
