Looked around - next one down from the frs 8 is the fr8 - no significant changes, but it's cheaper over here...

http://cpc.farnell.com/visaton/fr8-2...ohm/dp/LS01668

Other than that, there's the ones they use in cheap Ghetto Blasters

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31433

Or eliptical ones, which would probably mean you can try different dimensions....

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=3277

These speakers should be easy to get hold of, as they are used almost everywhere in cheap sound applications.

The middle link may be best: 99dB/W/m, +/- 3dB

Not gonna get much better efficiency than that...

However, it is around 6" across - if you made the front a 6.5" square, would that be Ok???

I can pretty much guarantee that is a typo... should be 89 +/- 3 dB and more likely on the - side of that. Certainly in the range for a 4" driver/

Probably - seemed far too much

However, it looks similar to a friend's cheapo ghetto blaster, which goes pretty loud for 2W rms total.

i want to do a portable stereo with t amp and the HIVI bs3. was thinking of the spiral horn. was wondering if that combnition would good for outdoors like near the beach. most speakers get drowned out by the surf.
