looking to design an enclosure for a full range tapped horn.
possibly looking to run these car speakers as the drivers: http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp...s&form=KEYWORD they're very well made, for a reasonable price, proper 12dB crossovers, etc. aiming for a musical setup, only really need a 40 - 50Hz lower frequency response. the question is, will this work, and where do I start with a tapped horn? thanks! |

By definition, both sides of the driver need to be inside the tapped horn so it's not going to work with a single fullrange driver. Technically it could be done with the driver facing out the mouth of the horn but then it's really just a driver in mouth BLH and a BIB style pipe horn is a much better bet for a fullrange driver.
Using tapped horn subs to augment a fullrange system is another story completely... |

Actually, a tapped horn technically just means that the driver is 'tapped' into the horn at x distance from the throat. The BIB for example is a tapped (pipe) horn. However, as you say, the DSL style of enclosure (effectively, a double-tapped horn) is what the term is used most frequently for, and you'd have to get rather creative with the layout to preserve the HF.
