I've never done that but I would try a light paint such as aquarel-paint in order not to alter the characteristics of the cone. Will probably remain a light back, but could be a start...
What about painting the bass driver in white?? The extra weight of the paint could have a positive impact in terms of slightly greater moving mass (Mms) and lower Fs, and hence possibly a bit more bass (if needed)...
