Default Please help re-tune my MLTLs for new drivers.

Hello, I built these DIYAUDIO reference fullrange MLTLs for use with FE127E a while ago.

I have recently purchased a pair of FX120eN off Planet 10, and I wish to put them in my MLTL cabinets.

The port tuning with the FE127E required a tube of 1.5" diameter and 51mm in length.

What length of 1.5" tube will the FX120s require?

Help please.

Congrats on the FX120, but with all respect to the effort you put into your MLTL build, I'd suggest you talk to Dave or Scott re a far better enclosure design for the new drivers.

No doubt you could drop the 120's in these boxes, and "retune" them to work, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't realize far more of the driver's potential with a "clean sheet" design. Also note, that if you have included the driver magnet brace as shown in your drawing, that will need to be modified as well.

As you're probably aware, we built a custom pair of enclosures for the F120A earlier this year*. I think it's fair to say the fundamental T/S specs for the FX120 and F120A are "close enough" for modeling purposes, and aside from the not insignificant difference in sensitivity, the 120 drivers are on an entirely different level than the FE series.

*Indeed, I have specs from Dave for a new version of this enclosure, but there are several items ahead on the priority list, and it's not an easy build.

Chris: Thanks for the reply. Ultimateley I will build some small Fonkens, or Nagaoka style double horns if I have the space, but for now I want to get these MLTLs optimum. There is only so much time available at the moment.

If i don't do it soon, bug me to post measured specs...

it will be on this new, as of now not linked into the site, page

http://www.planet10-hifi.com/measured.html

I will be able to get average data on 126, 127, 166, 206, 207, FX120, FF85 up as well as what exists. I may post some smaller sample data on a few others.

We've been talking already... this is just to keep him rolling until we finish working thru what at this point would be called an mFonkenFX (confused yet -- smallest possible Fonken for the FX)

In terms of the diyRef ML-TL, the actual numbers for the FX120, are way closer to the FE127 factory specs than the FE127 so the box is probably better tuned already.

I thought that I would post some photos of my FX120eNs for those of you who are interested in Dave's (Planet 10) beautiful work.
