Default shape of a ml tl line ?

Dear all,

I would like to build an ML TL speaker a la MJK but would like to avoid having the back of the enclosure parrallel to the speaker.

Try and listen to the reflected sound you can hear by placing a reflectant surface in front of your loudspeaker. I'd like to avoid this reflection passing through the speaker cone. This may well be non science, but I'd like to try it.

Now, how can I do this?
Can I change the shape of the line to, let say, a triangle, keeping the aera constant?
Can I incline the top and the base of the enclosure at 45° or so ?

In advance I thank you for your advises?

Philippe (who will probably not build that real soon because he only has few free time now but likes to think about it)

Yes. Yes.

An ML-TL is a cylinder of any cross-sectional shape with a fixed cross-sectional area with a specific length, Port/mass-loaded-terminus is at one end, and the driver is usually off-set from the other end.

(Theoretically) Sloping the top will blur the length of the box, which will broaden & flatten the Q of the primary resonance (and all the harmonics). My experience with ML-TLs is that the bass often needs trimming back, the slope should have that effect (ie bass support from the terminus should be wider with a lower peak). The same smearing of the harmonics should help the damping material kill the unwanted harmonics.

Tank you Dave.
I intended to slope the botom all together, keeping the length, well sort off.
If I read you well it is something that can be done and that will be close to the original design.
I'll try to give it a try ... before next year.
best regards.
Philippe
