Default Radio Repair Shop

I wasn't sure where to post this, but since I visit here often..... This is a photograph of "Lawndale Radio Repair" shop in Toledo, Ohio. The guy on the left is my Grandfather, who worked there in the late thirties to early 40's. My Dad and I were trying to figure out what the large black circular/disk is on the back wall? Anyone know?

It could have been where a stove pipe connected too at one time. I don't know for sure, but it looks like the smaller inner circle would have been where the stove pipe connected, and the outer circular part is a heat shield.. Dave

Looking at it more closely now it is trimmed around the full edge of the circle.. I'd say definitely it was for a stove, ventilation fan or an old window..

The thing that struck me was the wire seemingly running under the bottom. I attached a close up of the mysterious black circle.

It's hard to say I guess.. I'll vote heat shield still, but one can never know.. I like the big old radio in the first pic, imagine some of the news that was upcoming that people were about to hear through it during those times.. Dave

Kids, kids...
It's completely obvious that it's a High Density Wave Intensifier...or a Pure Carbon-coupled Throbulation Regenerator...or something else.

I'm positive it's one of the three!

Best regards,
TerryO
