Hello All,
I attended Burning Amp 2008 yesterday and had a very nice, educational time. A raffle was held mid-day and I won some drivers from Nelson Pass. - 4 Pioneer B20FU12W 8" full range drivers - 8 really small tweeters My quick research on this forum reveals: - these things have been around for a while - people have tried open baffle, sealed, and TL - people like to tweak them - a well documented design isn't easy to find - the tweeter seems to be needed, but the selection of crossover frequency seems to be highly variable - it's a great driver if your expectations are low enough Any suggestions on what to build? Is there any distortion data available for the B20? I'd like something decent, but not hugely sized. I'd prefer to not tweak the driver excessively. I can power these with a Dynaco tube amp, it that improves my acceptance on the full-range forum. Thanks! |

The no brainer build is a BIB speaker using the Pioneer drivers and the whizzer tweeters with a simple 1st order crossover.
Search the site for BIB pioneers, and Variac's plans will pop-up. They sound really great and much better than they should! -David |

LOL! It's true. But i have a musician friend that loves them and he's heard many other expensive speakers. I think they just float his boat like no other. |

I built half-Changs for the pair of B20s I got at Burning Amp 2007. They work very well. WAF was too low to do teh full Changs.

Man, those are big. VAS must be infinity. Maybe I'll make them "patio" speakers.
Anyone done an open baffle with this driver? Joy? I'll figure out how to email you tomorrow. Thanks!! |
