Hiya Stew,
Cal's thought on car audio: High sensitivity, high Q and don't worry about the bottom two octaves. Cheers. |

thanks Cal. Personally I'm no car audio type. It's fer the kids don't ya know (and I'm way beyond being a kid....). Next time I come out I'll bring ya a gift, 'cause Laura figures I need to unload some stuff--Altec model 5's or 7's, whatever I picked up. In real nice shape too.
Or if you want ta pay for shipping, their yours right away. stew

Choosing car speakers is best done a little backwards. Look at: -the physical area you have to work with, -your listening tastes, -your expectations, -mounting clearances and measure repeatedly, and find the best compromise in your budget. Your good judgement will prevail. I had good luck with various Vifa, Audax, Peerless etc in cars in my installing years. The standard line midrange/midbass (i.e. Vifa Classic) worked well. They usually performed as well as the most expensive car audio brands at that time, if the crossover received reasonable attention. In general, stay away from products with low efficiency, and low excursion. Higher Qts is a plus if there's not going to be a larger speaker supporting it in the lower regions. 8 ohm drivers are fine. Here's an inexpensive Audax that worked very well for me a couple of years back with Peerless 841939 ring/dome tweeters and 2nd order filter: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=296-190

Sorry it's not about the speakers, but how is a Prius be illegal in Alberta?
On the car audio side of things, make sure you dampen down door panels and even flooring, I never noticed a Prius being that quiet on road noise. |

Alberta has approximately 21% of conventional oil reserves, and 47% equivalent of all crude production in Canada. The "illegal in Alberta" was intended as a bit of a joke, we waste so much energy. King Ralph was the previous premier (head of the Provincial government) and a fine example of excess.
The number of large SUVs in Alberta (and pickup trjucks) that never see anything but highway or city streets is huge, and almost all of them have a single occupant in them when you see them driving down the road. It's every Albertan's right to waste as much as he or she chooses.... If you consciously choose something fuel efficient, you're labelled a " hippie", "tree-hugger" or similar. And if you choose to ride a scooter---well you might as well cut your own b@lls off , 'cause obviously you aren't a Real Albertan anyways. Back to the actual situation regarding speakers. This particular Prius has a huge amount of dampening material installed. I know this because the kids are puttin' a complete new leather interior into it (for some 'luxe accommodations), and removed the carpet for a thorough cleaning. stew

it seems the kids went a bought something typically car audio just to stuff in there. And that's ok, 'cause it's only car audio after all.

Nanook, my man,
May I suggest you look at the DCGold (nee Babb) drivers? They have outstanding (did I misspell astounding?) specs, and this mobile stuff is right in their demesne; they were originally boat speakers! Yes, they're not cheep either, but they have outstanding ethos, and besides; If I can get you to try them in your Prius, I can get a first person read on a driver in which I am considerably interested. Go, go! Don't hezzitate, just go! Report back. To me only, mind; no inclood these other guyz. Aloha, Poinz |

Sorry, wasn't thinking (a habit of mine):
http://estore.websitepros.com/1203052/StoreFront.bok Yes, it's a very weird URL. I actually checked it out. I' m a site developer myself, and maybe I'll talk to them about buffing up their online presence. Onward, Poinz |

but as I previously noted, the kids decided on some rather typical car audio schlock...and I don't put any $$ into car audio....
