What about a full range driver attached to a pipe (Transmission Line) such that the pipe is routed physically outside of the house, or routed to a room physically far away, or just routed to the basement and wrapped around the room 4 times (pipe is stuffed).
It would be like a grounding rod for the out-of-phase audio signal. This sounds perfect, no? I am obviously missing something. The signal would have to be sufficiently attenuated by the time it exited the pipe, the room where the pipe exits would have to be able to dissipate the remaining signal, and the room would have to be not a source of any noise that could feed back. |

If so, why not just IB?

Indeed. Or a 'proper' TL (i.e. a sealed line).

It is a "perfect" way of dealing with a singularly observed problem. It is not very practical, and there are advantages to using the rear wave in 1/4 wave TL's to extend the bass and improve bass power handling. |

True, but that's assuming you are actually going to run the driver FR. If it's just going to cover the midband & HF, as is sometimes the case, then a damped sealed line or an aperiodic open-ended TL is a good way of dealing with the driver's BW. Generally I agree though.
