Tangband W3-871S Discontinued? Post #469
"Parts Express only shipped one W3-871S and when I called indicated that they would not receive any more to fill my backorder as Tang Band had discontinued production of these drivers.

As I only have one driver I either need to find another one through other sources, sell the one I have or return it to Parts Express.

My first choice would be to obtain one. Does anyone have one available? If not, does anyone want to purchase the one I have at cost plus shipping?"

Roy

That's too bad. It's as classic as the RS 1197 and 1354 IMO. I like the Bamboo drivers tho they are more expensive and the Titaniums look interesting too but i never heard them and they are expensive too. Personally, the cheaper TBs sound very similar to the expensive ones. I also have the 315 and 319 and they both sound nice enough. Not the best for critical listening but certainly fill a room with sound.

I'd been on the fence waiting to build a focused array.........

I have 9 of the w3-871s but know of a guy named tim here at the trading post selling 12 at $15 each.............But I don't use 2 speakers. Wanted to build it to bring to local diy show..........

It's been a long project in the wings................

I'd read the omega minuet review and wanted a pair of the ribbed neo magnet pp w4-1052sd until I'd read where someone found them lacking in detail. I'm a staunch anti-polypropylene guy. I was hoping.

Next up is the peerless tg91004, read it was much better than the w3-871s (I'd imagine the copper cap is why)...... but 38cm2 (the 4" bamboo is 57cm2 and 871s is 32cm2)........I need to use more than 1 as running wide open or crossed at 200hz used mostly music and 20% movies.

So guess I keep saving till I got enough or start ordering the peerless 4 at a time, maybe build a 4 focused array first then build larger as I get more.

Those 4" bamboo's are nice according to all I've read on them, not as alive but more like a good recording.

What sort of weird about this product drop is that the current PE catalog has what looks like 871's in their -- let's charitably --call it a fantasy build.

Apparently there's a good number of these available.

I won't get into a bidding war. Mail me with any interest in one or two.

They are used but in decent shape considering hobby use.

from what know, the W3-871SC *) (the shielded version) will be discontinued, but the W3-871A (unshielded) will be manufactured for the forseeable future.

*) different letters after the number in the EU due to the RoHS regulation, drivers sold here have to be complient to the RoHS regulatiosn, e.g. no lead in the solder.

thanks for the offer.....

I don't need any, now anyway.

I just hate to see something good stop being made, like a certain food you like at a grocery store that they no longer carry.

I think with everyone here and the trading post that if anyone wanted some, they could just ask.
