Sorry but I forgot to mention my size limitations. This is for a portable boombox and I'd like to use either one 4 ohm 4-6" speaker per channel or two 8 ohms <3" speakers in parallel per channel.
Thanks for the suggestion though and if you know something smaller that'd be great.

How about two of these wired in parallel per side? You'd get efficiency up around 93 dB, not too bad and they ought to be indestructible.

I'd expect better bass from the single 8" Pioneer however but that is not 4 ohm and two of them would be too big for the size cabinet you seek.

I'd like to explore this low cost Dayton driver for FR use with tweeks. Things like cutting out the center cap and installing a phase plug and cone coatings, spider mods, etc. Anyone out there tried these for hi-fi?

Damit couldn't edit ....

I'm actually tossing up between these two models: http://www.etechnology.co.nz/boschmann-4-250-watt-2-way-loudspeakers-pair-xidp97785.html OR http://www.etechnology.co.nz/megavox-4-160-watt-2-way-speakers-pair-xidp164389.html Both have the same good sensitivity and similar ranges with the major difference being power ratings (Boschmann = 125 RMS; Megavox = 55 RMS) and price (2x Boschmann = $120 NZ; 2x Megavox = $35 NZ) With me using the Amp6-Basic which only outputs 2x25W, is there any point in paying nearly 4 times as much for more power or will it not make a difference and I should just go cheaper?
On the flipside I've been told to avoid dodgy brands that give unbelievable stats - and while Boschmann seems to be quality I don't know about Megavox (especially as they are such a bargain for only $17 NZ pretty good speakers) . Any opinions on which to pick?
