well, I certainly don't have a quick answer up my sleeve, and I doubt that without a bit more information, whether too many other DIYers would either
in no particular order, questions like: - room size - single amp channel per side with passive XO, or some variation of multi-amped "active" - OB (such as MJK's well documented project), or some variation of "box(es)" - domestic acceptance factor - budget

You may find that depending on the cabinet design, a FE126E may be quite satisfying by itself. Check out some of the links posted in Chris's response above.

The Ron Clarke A126 BLH design, or Scott Lindgren's "Harvey" or "Saburo" for starters, could well get you rethinking the need for extra help in the bottom - particularly in smaller rooms . of course, there's always the question - "how much is enough?" ; even with the best intentions and well executed designs, none of us have the answer for you

seems you would need a pretty efficient woofer
I would look fore one with smooth "top" GreatPlainsAudio makes an interesting 12" but personally I fancy the technology of AE with low inductance Or maybe Supravox 400GMF Expencive, but I would consider it like investment in gold |

Glue is drying on a speaker right now with a 126E and an 8" Silver Flute Wool cone.
Will report on sound and construction when it's done. I have heard the 125 in BLH cabs a couple of times and I have seen them in a TL loaded with another 6 1/2" driver (TL loaded with passive radiator) and loved it. In fact, this combo is what lead me to try the experiment I have going now. No way to tell yet if it will work at all, but if it flops, I will be building either a frugal or an A126 as soon as I know. lol take care, Robert |

Robert - did you mean FE126, or FF125K, and would that by any chance be a variant of a "ziggy" design?

Nice enough project, but FWIW, my own experience with the FE126 is that a tweeter would certainly not be the first area I'd be looking to spend more bucks. Indeed, the extra investment on EnABL treatment to this driver* ( either DIY or purchased) will make substantially greater improvements than simple FR measures can reveal, and for this driver in such a small enclosure, bass augmentation of some sort certainly makes sense. *disclaimer: see profile

I did mean FE126 sorry. And yep it is a "Ziggy" special, lol. Actually it is an HDT. Simple enough. I couldn't resist, lol. If I don't like it, I can easily enough cut a new baffle and add the ribbon tweet and have a standard cabinet. Now if I can just manage to get them finished up this weekend! Robert |
