Default Mini arrays revisited ?

2" peerless driver for $17.35 each (only $10.5 for 50+)

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/PDF/830970.pdf

neo motor, copper cap on pole piece, 1.5g cone.
fs = 147, qts .57

any thought about using 4 in a vert array then bass support ?

kinda of similar to nonsuch4 by 7th veil ?
think they are out of business now, can't find them.................
http://www.tnt-audio.com/jpg/nonsuch.jpg
but their cnc wedge slices did really add to the retail price................

similar to the one by audience (bandor i think)?
http://www.positive-feedback.com/Iss...PFOWChoice.jpg

the jordan jx53's or bandors are a bit pricy, especially here in the states..............

maybe the tang band neo 2" x 3" for $25.........................
http://www.partsexpress.com/pdf/264-830s.pdf

I'm not too keen on poly cones though, details are lost............
same 1.5 grams as 2" peerless but advertised close to double the area............

thoughts ? experience?

I'd be listening 11' away and want full range drivers instead of tweets and crossovers.............

Have you considered the 3" M&K FR dual-cone units sold by Apex Jr?

apexjr.com/speakerstuff.html

(Just wondering, because I've been thinking of them for a line array. Cheap also.)

Default hmmmmmmmm

Well, I'm not too keen on whizzers................

I like phase plugs...................

but at $4 each and 12 ohm load..............not bad..........

how long an array ????????

I'd seen a few comments such as no more than 3 x 4" full range drivers (frames) in a vert array if listening no less than 8' away .....

the copper cap drew me in on the peerless but I see a bit of ringing similar to the jx92s on the waterfall plots on zaphaudio.com (under tidbits).

on ridge speaker with jx92s in tranny line from 6moons
"The metallic aftertaste of the treble found sometimes with the Onix did resurface on piano music............pianist or style and the SP3/Ridges handled the dynamic and physical involvement quite well yet they felt tonally off with too much string and not enough wood on Richter's instrument............ Renaud Garcia Fons' Entremundo [ENJ 3318-2] suddenly seemed to have far more flutes and metallic percussions than I remembered.........."

http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/ridge/ridge_2.html

that would be the ringing in the metalic cone

zaphaudio seems down at the moment or else I'd link the waterfalls of the jordan and the peerless...............

Check out http://www.greenie512.net/greenie512...ine_array.html

I've heard Phil's LA's made from cheap n cheerful drivers. Talk about a wall of sound!
Very impressive.
I don't think we're talking ultra-fi or pin-point sound stage when discussing LA's, so just make something that has PRESENCE!

cheers

nice pictures !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for the link...........

17 x 4" drivers = good dynamics

actually similar to the ids25 (using eq)
but he's bringing in a coupe of tweeters

"Arrays early Oct 05; I knew once I went public everyone would say “stack tweeters above one another” - so I did. These are only US$15 units so do not hit ultra highs. I can not get those crash cymbals shimmering like I get out of the Seas “millenniums” but they cost 10 times more! I’m using a basic second order crossover I tried 3 Kh, 3.5 kh and 4 kh points by ear?? and the higher seems more neutral to me."

makes sense..........................

I've heard arrays like that one only more tweets, even 30' away the image seemed too tall.............

Thanks...................
