Do you see any complications by simply cutting in half and playing with the stuffing in the compression chamber?

Er, yes. It would be an utterly different speaker, with the flare shot to pieces & the balance between horn & QW loadings destroyed. You can't just chop cabinets in half unfortunately. The only way you could do it is to double the width.
