I like to play around with speakers some but building the enclosures can be a pain. So I was toying with knocking
2 holes in the wall right in back of the open baffel speakers in the picture. If I knocked a 18" x 24" hole it would be real easy to just swap out baffels each time I tried a new driver or combo of drivers. Is there any real disavantage to this. Or should I just add wings to my phillips open baffel speakers. |

Sorry about that here is the pic. The amp is a 6c45pi probably
putting out ~1 watt. The phillips 9762M drivers realy could use a little more power but most of the time that little amp is ok! the Phillips were a $5 yard sale find but these finds are so dang hard to come across! |

They won't be open baffle anymore if you mount the baffle in the wall. They'll be infinite baffle. Probably have decent sound and bass, but not the same presentation. Probably sound more like a huge sealed enclosure.

Woody,
Are you wanting to swap drivers in and out but keep the same OB's? Or are you asking something else? If you're looking to do driver swapping, then you could cut an 18" square out of the centre of your current baffles and simply build an 18" baffle for each of the drivers you are wanting to test. Easy to swap in and out (you'd have to build some sort of mounting arrangement, of course) and you wouldn't lose the OB sound...
