I have an old set of Klh hta-9005 home theater speakers that may be fun to experiment with. The set comes with 4 sats and a matching center channel. They all use inexpensive 4 inch drivers and a cheap tweeter.
I removed the drivers and measured the opening and the Tang Band W4-616s would be a direct replacement. The tweeter looks like a goldwood Gt-302, nothing special but should work well as a helper tweeter to round out the 616s. The cabinets are made of 1/2 inch (or less) particle board and measure 8.75" H x 5.25" W x 5" D (exterior dimensions). The box is probably too small for the 616s but it is sealed and will be stuffed. Remember the NHT SuperZero? That was a small sealed speaker that worked very well. Is this even worth trying? Here's a photo of the unmodified KLH speakers: |
