Default Tweeters for DX3

From my experience:

Quote:
Visaton Horn tweeter TL 16 H 8 OHM
Works well.

Quote:
LCY 100K
Quote:
Aurum Cantus G2
Quote:
Raven R 1.1
These are not dynamic enough.

The Fostex horn tweeters (T90, T900, etc.) work well.
The RAAL ribbon 140-15D works well.

The RAAL and Fostex Magnesium diaphram tweeters are my favorites.

You have to add crossovers & padding to match.

As always, YMMV.

LCY 100K, not dynamic(ND)

Aurum Cantus G2 - ND

Raven R 1.1 - ND

The Fostex horn tweeters (T90, T900, etc.) workS well.

The RAAL ribbon 140-15D works well.

If I am not mistaken all these tweeters are fairly expensive except for Aurum Cantus...(less than US$90each). Also all of them are high quality tweeter.

My suggestion experiment with less expensive tweeter if you like the sound upgrade later. I would opt for Aurum first, which I am thinking of getting myself.

Bearing in mind earlier some purist don't use tweeter.

IMHO, the DX3 sounded better without the Aurum, it sounded as if the tweeter slowed down the system. It did, however, add just a bit of sheen on the highs.

With the preferred tweeters the system sounded like you made a nice addition to the sound, and nothing was lost.

currently I use a Motorola Piezo(el cheepo tweeter does mean it is inferior, x-over at about 8K)), it seems to work quite well.
the other recommended tweeters are far too expensive for. Thanks for your suggestion.

I heard elsewhere that dome tweeters do not work as well with full range, is this correct?

I have yet to find a dome tweeter that is 97 dB efficient, so I have never tried one.

Hi,
most treble drivers have a dome somewhere in the air moving mechanism.
My Audax HD-3P and Tannoy HPD both have.
The dust cap in the middle of a coned driver provides much of the highest frequency output.
What shape is the diaphram of a compression driver? Domed?

The Audax is a piezo unit, the Tannoy is horn loaded. I assumed the question related to a voice coil driven, direct radiating tweeter which is the typical definition of a dome tweeter.

If you choose to widen that definition all sorts of possibilities exist. But I never heard of anyone refer to a horn tweeter as a dome tweeter because there is a dome in the driver. Likewise, piezo tweeters are typically called piezo tweeters in order to differentiate them from "standard" dome tweeters.

OK. That's all good.

Looks like I'll be trying The Fostex super tweeter.
One question though:

The Lowthers in the MLTL has a bump in Martin's frequensy response diagram - arround 7k to 15k in this design.
could this be the reason I get listening fatigue after a while?
After all it's at least 5dB.

The question is: would it be possible to dampen this bump?
Would it be best to cross over the Lowthers at 7-8k and then 8-9k on Fostex (ca 95dB)?
Then again may be there are better wways to do it?

Like leave it alone?

Best regrads
Kaare

I realize that the frequensy response diagram I've been looking at might not be
the final one...(?)
MJK made a revision to the Baffle Step Correction Circuit.
I made the updated one.
Is there an updated frequensy response diagram some where?
Are there a lot of difference in the new Correction Circuit?

Could any one help me out here?

Best regards
Kaare

Hello Kaare,

In your first post you said you wanted to "bring a bit more sweetness from the music";is it possible that your drivers are not fully run in?

My experience with the EX3 is that they needed a good 6 months of regular use to run them in. Thereafter, they always sounded sweet to me.
